Human or Robot?

Are they human or robots? You know, those people who start up a charity website and whose fundraising total is thousands of dollars ahead of the second place person.

I have always been amazed (and, TBH, a bit envious) at those mega-fundraisers. Knowing, from first hand experience, how difficult fundraising can be, those people certainly are the cream of the crop and any charity organization's dream come true!!!!

As my followers may know, I dedicate the month of September to raise money, through my charity fundraiser, STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK, to support local pet rescue. Now in my 9th campaign, this is, and always has been, a cause near and dear to my heart. But this year, I have been facing a new struggle which I can only describe as inner conflict mixed with a small dose of melancholy. Why, you may ask? Well, let me explain.

You see, there's a battle raging. No, not one in the streets of some oppressed foreign city, but in my head. Voices screaming contradictory messages; alternating between encouragement and reproach. Common sense telling me one thing, but emotion imparting another. All this conflict, this serious struggle for me (the uncertainty and doubt) are encapsulated into a circumstance I call "Appeal Overload". You are being BOMBARDED from every direction with requests for donations. We all are....

We (fellow pet parents and pet lovers) are aware of the sad reality of neglect, abuse, and homelessness in pet populations; both locally and abroad (and Covid has, in some ways, created a new level of need -read more in my story Senior Abandonment :: A Disturbing New Trend ). That is certainly what brings us together and urges us to support fundraisers such as my SITPFKWB. But, as far greater and more serious situations arise, such as the devastating and raging wild fires in the western United States or the havoc wreaked on the Gulf Coast by recent hurricanes, or the countless "Walks-For-This and Rides-For-That" make headlines every day, I battle constantly with self-doubt and uncertainty. The bottom line is, I am reluctant to be yet another "ASK"!

But, my conscience won't let me stop! I can't ignore the fact that there are helpless pets in need!

(Above left to right, Roger, Pepper, Boots and Gizmo, all dumped because of health issues and age but now safe in the care of Happy's Place!)

So, I have continued with my daily walks and am committed to my pledge to donate .50 cents for every kilometer I walk this month. And, I hope I can count on you to make even just a small donation. Even a nominal amount will make a difference; just 5 bucks is better than none at all! ❤️ And, for added convenience in this global world, I have created a GoFundMe page www.GoFundMe.com/f/SITPFKWB2021 . But for my local supporters I am happy to accept cash, cheques, and e-transfers (StrollingForFurKids@gmail.com).

This year, I will be donating all proceeds to Happy's Place - Retirement Home For Dogs. Happy's is a 100% non-profit group. Happy's Place is an in-home, foster based senior dog rescue for dogs who are at higher risk of euthanasia due to age or other reasons. They focus on building relationships between people and old dogs to promote wellness, happiness, and the best life possible!

As this month is now coming to a close, I will press on in the effort to raise what I can for this worthy cause and hope that you will consider becoming a Happy's Hero as I STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK (in support of pet rescue)!!!
