Meet Gidget

SITPFKWB 2014 Poster Girl

Gidget Needs Hip Surgery

Gidget is a 5 year old, 20 pound American Eskimo who was recently surrendered to Animalert.  All of a sudden last Friday she was unable to walk and after taking her for a veterinary exam, an X-ray discovered that her hip was dislocated.

On further examination, a diagnosis of severe hip dysplasia was made.  Although her hip was relocated, it seems that condition is so severe that it will not stay in place.

Surgery for her first hip has already been scheduled. Then, in about 10 weeks after she's had time to recover, she will have surgery for the other.   The doctor said that Gidget has likely had hip pain most of her life but anticipates a pain free life in her future.

Of course we all know that this kind of veterinary care will command a large price tag and that's where we come in!  Besides the actual surgery, there is a regime of medications for both pre and post op that will help pretty little Gidget to cope with the pain and to prevent infection.

Since hearing of little Gidget's plight, I have decided to dedicate my 2014 fundraising efforts to helping cover these medical expenses.

I hope that you will support me by pledging to donate cents/per kilometer or a lumps sum or by joining me on Stroll-Along-Sunday and signing up your own sponsors in support of Animalert.

The Meeting

Last week, I the honour and pleasure of meeting Gidget.  I can't remember meeting a sweeter little girl.  She was happy to snuggle up and certainly enjoyed the attention.

Sadly, due to the severe hip dysplasia
Gidget,is unable to walk on her back right leg and is in constant pain (according to her vet). However, that sweet little face and her enthusiastic countenance do not covey it.  Surgery for repair is scheduled for September 8th.  She needed a little time to recover after having a spay and dental work just recently.

Of course, the surgeries and medications required for
Gidget to recover fully will come with a price tag and I am happy to know that the donations we will be raising will help offset those.

You can help either by sponsoring me on my month-long event or by participating on Stroll-Along-Sunday taking place on September 28th in Springbank Park, London, ON.
