DAY 9 :: STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK (in support of pet rescue)

Sandy Shore

Yet another SITPFKWB 2021 day of pre-fall sunshine made us eager to go and spend some time on the beach.

We arrived on the secluded and desolate beach next to Cousins Pond, the fur-kids securely on their leashes (one of the few times we use the extend-a-leashes) but running a few yards ahead in their exuberance. Minutes after dipping all 80 of our toes in the water, a giant doodle-type dog came bounding at top speed from the opposite side of the beach, likely 100 yards or more, while its owners casually sauntered along, making no effort to stop it. I heard them call out to him once or twice but I hastily scooped Joee up into my arms so she didn't get trampled and knelt over top of Jakie (who was cowering in mortified fear) because this animal was growling wildly at him. I was firmly screaming STOP, STOP, STOP and finally as the owners came within about 60 or 70 feet, they called out again (far enough off yet that I couldn't even make out the name they were shouting) and the "beast" ran off to rejoin them. They did not even make an attempt to apologize or even come close enough to ask after our state. I'm always saddened when I encounter such inconsiderate and disrespectful dog owners since in the end, should a serious or tragic incident happen, it will be the DOG who pays the price for its guardians' negligence.

RANT OVER... LOL

So...anyhooo... After we all calmed down, the five of us enjoyed a quiet time on the beach. Jeffrey dipped his toes in water for the very first time and seemed to have mixed feelings about the whole thing. Miss Joee, maybe because she's nearly deaf and almost completely blind, was keen to stand in the surf with her Mommy. Jake took a minute to recall the sensation (from his last trip here in 2018), but then was happy to run through the waves with his Daddy. I was able to log another couple of official kilometers and added 2.25 more to the books. All in all, the morning was filled with lots of surf and sand and enjoyed by one and all.

Donations have been trickling in slowly and I am grateful to all those who have already pledged their support. As ever, I will be personally donating .50 cents per kilometer for every kilometer I walk in the month of September (in support of pet rescue) and I invite folks to show their support by sponsoring me either by cents-per-kilometer or in a lump sum. For added convenience for my non-Canadian supporters, you may click here for my GoFundMe page but for my local supporters, I am also happy to accept cash, cheques, and e-transfers at StrollingForFurKids@gmail.com

I am excited to see where tomorrow's walk will lead me as I STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK (in support of pet rescue)!!!
