DAY 10 :: STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK (in support of pet rescue)

Being A Tourist Today

Since it was a rainy day, I wasn't able to fit a walk in this morning and unfortunately our holiday itinerary for the day didn't allow it later on. A tour of the farm that inspired the writer Lucy Maud Montgomery to write a plethora of books including the Anne of Green Gables, Emily of New Moon, and Road to Avonlea series was so thrilling for me since, as an aspiring writer, I am a huge fan of all her writing!

Silver Bush in Park Corner, PEI; the farm owned by L. M. Montgomery's Aunt Annie and Uncle John.

But, just because I can't squeeze an "official" walk in, doesn't mean I'm not thinking about it. In a store, driving by a park, visiting local historical sites all have a way of presenting something about dogs to my day.

Today, as I was surfing the internet for something totally unrelated, I came across this piece that was so touching I decided I would share it. As fur-kid parents -especially those pups who've been rescued from grim situations- we all feel a special and heightened sense of duty to make the remainder of our pooch's life the best it can be. And even though we don't have the privilege of sharing their lives for nearly as long as we would if they had been a 10-week-old puppy, we form what I believe might be an even deeper connection because of that.

So, even though I didn't log any kilometers to increase my totals today, I remain focused and committed to my fundraising goal. And, while donations have been trickling in slowly, I am truly grateful to all those who have already pledged their support. As ever, I will be personally donating .50 cents per kilometer for every kilometer I walk in the month of September (in support of pet rescue) and I invite folks to show their support by sponsoring me either by cents-per-kilometer or in a lump sum. For added convenience for my non-Canadian supporters, you may click here for my GoFundMe page but for my local supporters, I am also happy to accept cash, cheques, and e-transfers at StrollingForFurKids@gmail.com

The sunshine is expected to return tomorrow and once again I'll hit the trail as I STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK (in support of pet rescue)!!!
