DAY 1 :: STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK (in support of pet rescue)

On your mark!! ... Get set!! ... STROLL!!!

For 8th time in 9 years, can you believe it??, I laced up my shoes and struck out this morning for day 1 of STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK, in support of pet rescue. The one particular year, 2016, I set aside for Paces for Peg, as we walked to raise money for the Parkinson's Society in honour of my beautiful Mom, Peg Riese.

Thank goodness the weather has turned to more "walkable" temperatures! So, I was pleased to start on a paws-itive note, logging 10.5 kilometers! I'm so excited for this year and am committed to making it my BEST year ever!!

Over the past 9 campaigns, I have been honoured and blessed by the support I have received by so many of you! My gratitude just cannot be expressed in words. Year after year, you have cheered me on not only with your positive words, but with your contributions. I am so proud of the thousands of dollars I have been able to raise over these past many years, to support so many fantastic pet rescues including: Happy's Place Retirement Home for Dogs, Pee Wee's Pals, Animalert, PAWS United, and the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. I am just finalizing the details with the rescue I have selected to support his year and I know that you will be excited to help me help them!

It looks like this year, once again, we will continue to be in the midst of the pandemic. I just want to take a moment here, to say a prayer for all those who have been affected in some way by Covid. May we also remember the "pandemic puppies"; those fur-kids who were adopted during the height of the pandemic but are now being left in shelters as families resume "normal" life and find they have no time for them. Statistics are showing this ugly trend increasing and that means shelters and rescues will be full once again with fur-kids looking for a forever home. And that, in turn, means a rise in financial burden for these organizations.

As ever, I will be personally donating .50 cents per kilometer for every kilometer I walk in the month of September (in support of pet rescue) and I invite folks to show their support by sponsoring me either by cents-per-kilometer or in a lump sum. For added convenience for my non-Canadian supporters, you can klick here for a link to my GoFundMe page but for my local supporters, I am also happy to accept cash, cheques, and e-transfers.

With 29 days to go, I am -not as young as I once was, LOL- but thrilled to get moving as I STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK (in support of pet rescue)!!!

~~ God is within me and I will not fail~~
