WRAP UP 2015 :: Stroll In The Park For Kids Who Bark (in support of pet rescue)

At long last I can now report the final notes of my 2015 SITPFKWB fundraising challenge. I am overwhelmed and sincerely thankful for the wonderful support and generosity shown by so many caring folks! When I set out on the 1st of September, my goal was to surpass my totals of last year; 251.5 kilometers and $1,355.50. As you all know, my pledge was to donate .50 cents for every kilometer I walked during the month.

Well, I am pleased to report that in the month of September I walked 254.75 kilometers (over 158 miles for my American friends). I’m no Forest Gump but that’s like waking to Bayfield, Ontario and back.

This year presented new challenges to my Stroll; first, having moved in early August, we were in a state of chaos when September 1st rolled around. Secondly, we moved to St. Thomas so I needed to get acquainted with a new park for much of my walk. In the total 254.75 kilometers I walked, 100.5 of them were in Springbank Park in London and the other 154.25 in Pinafore Park and around Lake Margaret in St. Thomas.

Along the way, I was honoured to meet many “rescued” fur-kids (and of course their mommies and daddies) who are now enjoying their tail-wagging, happily-ever-after lives with families who were eager to share their stories and are showering them with love! This year, I enjoyed the distinct honour of making a presentation to the Ladies Coffee Hour Group of North Park Community Church to share my story, my passion for fur-kids, talk about the irreplaceable and vital role pet rescue plays in today’s society, and to discuss the importance of responsible pet guardianship. Thank you especially to Hulda Edwards for your support and kindness and to Pastor Paul McIlwraith for blending the contents of my presentation into your message.

The 2nd Annual Stroll-Along-Sunday took place on September 27th at Springbank Park in London. The day was filled with glorious sunshine and the park buzzed with families and their fur-kids enjoying some quality time together. The participants – both two-legged and four – enjoyed an afternoon of friendship while sharing refreshments, stories, and lots of laughs. This year, I was honoured with the support of some pet-related vendors on hand to display their goods and services. Approximately one-quarter of the total amount raised came from donations raised by the “strollers”. Thank you to each and every one of you who came out to “play” on Stroll-Along-Sunday and congratulations once again to the winners of the raffle prizes (Vicky Lightfoot, Carole Dutton, Dianne Sigouin, and Wendy Harris).

So --- drum roll --- this past Tuesday night night, I was proud to present to Animalert a cheque totalling a whopping $2,041.00!!!! WOW... I am so thrilled to be able to offer a donation of this size ON BEHALF OF ALL OF YOU; knowing that it will go to such a worthy cause! [Kevin Gorman, President, me, and Bill Warder, Trustee]

In closing, I'd like to sincerely thank all the wonderful folks who so kindly and generously donated to this endeavour –I gratefully acknowledge you below– and once again thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support during my STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK!!!
