Week Two of Stroll In The Park For Kids Who Bark (in support of Animalert) is now in the books. This year I am finding that, while I am certainly reaching many more people through various forms of social media and personal contact, donations have become much more difficult to come by. It seems that people are stretched to the limits with requests for support for all kinds of good causes. But, I am still determined to try. So while this week was not as productive as I had hoped logging only 42.25 kilometers (mostly due to spending a lot more time canvasing), my total to date is now at 106.75 kilometers. I will have to really pick up in the second half to reach the goal I have set for myself!

Sad Statistics
At least 600,000 dogs in Canada are euthanized every year (500,000 in Quebec alone). There are thousands of dogs waiting to enter rescues in every province and sadly, many Canadians seem blissfully unaware of our homeless dog overpopulation.
The SPCA recently told Global News that every year around the busiest moving day of the year, July 1st, the number of abandoned pets triples to nearly 1,600 in the month. "At least 50,000 animals a year are impounded in Montréal alone, with the estimated number of animals impounded annually in the Province of Quebec at over 500,000. This means each year hundreds of thousands of dogs and cats are euthanized in that Province. These numbers are not going to decrease unless far-reaching measures are taken quickly." Area rescue groups such as Animalert try to help and have taken in a number of dogs, saved from hoarding and other situations, in the last couple of years. [source:TorontoPetDaily]
How You Can Help
I have pledged to donate .50 cents for every kilometer I walk in the month of September and invite you to sponsor me either by pledging cents per/kilometer or in a lump sum. For added convenience, I have created a GoFundMe account (for my American and International family and friends), but for my local supporters I am happy to accept cheques (made payable to Animalert), bank e-transfer, and cash.
Or, if you’re looking for a more active way of becoming involved, join me for Stroll-Along-Sunday, being held Sunday, September 27th from 1 – 3:00 p.m. at Picnic Area L, Springbank Park in London. Event details are available on my website, my Facebook page, or by e-mailing me at StrollingForFurKids@gmail.com. A registration and pledge form is available. Those who pre-register will receive a free gift and there will be a grand prize for the stroller who raises the most donations. Even just 5¢ per kilometer will add to a donation that will mean the difference of a life of misery or even euthanasia and help us to find a safe and happy home for abused, abandoned, and surrendered fur-kids! So, I hope you'll consider supporting me while I STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK!!!
