WRAP UP 2014 :: STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK (in support of Animalert)
At long last I can now report the final notes of my 2014 SITPFKWB fund raising challenge. I am overwhelmed and sincerely thankful for the wonderful support and generosity shown by so many caring folks! When I set out on the 1st of September, my goal was to surpass my totals of last year; 241 kilometers and $715.44. As you all know, my pledge was to donate .50 cents for every kilometer I walked during the month.

Well, I am pleased to report that in the month of September I walked 250.5 kilometers (over 155 miles for my American friends). I’m no Forest Gump but that’s like waking to Dundas, Ontario and back.
Over the month, I encountered a few obstacles; namely weather and weather related migraine attacks. Week 2 presented the biggest challenge as I suffered from the lingering effects of a migraine for nearly four days while we were being plagued by cold and rainy weather. But, my commitment to those who were following my progress wouldn’t let me “cop out” and even during that week, I was able to log 50 kilometers.
Along the way, I was honoured to meet many “rescued” fur-kids (and of course their mommies and daddies) who are now enjoying their tail-wagging, happily-ever-after lives with families who were eager to share their stories and are showering them with love! I was blessed too, to receive support and encouragement from my friends and family.

Additionally, Gidget, the American Eskimo mix who was recently rescued by Animalert, continues to recover nicely from the surgery she underwent to correct the severe hip dysplasia from which she has been suffering her entire 5 years of life. At last report, I learned that she’s using her right leg almost normally and will be ready in a few more weeks to undergo the same corrective surgery on her left hip. There will come a day when Miss Gidget will join a loving family of her own and live a happy, carefree fur-kid kind of life thanks to the compassion of so many involved in the Animalert organization.
In this second year of SITPFKWB, I added an interactive component and invited folks and fur-kids to participate in Stroll-Along-Sunday. The day will filled with glorious sunshine and the park buzzed with families and their fur-kids enjoying some quality time together. The participants – both two-legged and four – enjoyed an afternoon of friendship while sharing refreshments, stories, and lots of laughs. Approximately one-quarter of the total amount raised came from donations made to the “strollers”. Thank you to each and every one of you who came out to “play” on Stroll-Along-Sunday.

So --- drum roll --- last night, I was proud to present to Animalert donations totalling a whopping $1,355.50!!!! WOW...I am so thrilled to be able to offer a donation of this size on behalf of all of you; knowing that it will go to such a worthy cause!

In closing, I'd like to sincerely thank all the wonderful folks who so kindly donated to this endeavour –I gratefully acknowledge you below– and once again thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your support during my STROLL IN THE PARK FOR KIDS WHO BARK!
My heartfelt thanks to these wonderful supporters:
